The product I am reviewing is called Midori Spring Matcha Green Tea.
What is Matcha tea?
It is a fine green tea that can be used for drinking or cooking. The tea comes from the plant Camellia Sinensis.
There are many health benefits to drinking this powdered tea.
- It can reduce stress and mental alertness.
- Increase energy. It boosts energy due to its caffiene and other natural properties
- It can boost your metabolism and aide in weight loss. Match tea has almost zero calories, and helps burn calories four times more faster. It also lowers blood pressure and cholesterol. Also, it does not raise insulin levels.
- Boost immune system and also reduce inflammation.
- It can cleanse the body of harmful elements.
- It is full of antioxidants
I have never used this type of tea before, so this was new to me. The packaging was good. The tea comes in a litle tin can. It has a pull tab to open. When not in use it is best to store the can in the refridgerator, or in a cool, dry place. Let it get back down to room temperature before using the product.
Upon opening the can you will notice right off the bat that it is very green in color. Don't worry. This is natural. :) The green color is formed naturally due to the high volume of chlorophyll. Lower grades of this green tea have a more yellowish color.
If you have never drank green tea before you might not like the taste to begin with. It is an acquired taste like coffee or wine. It does have a slight bitter taste to it, but give it a chance. I added some honey to mine to give it a sweeter taste. You could make a latte or smoothie with it as well. You can adjust the amount of tea and water to your taste as well. Traditonally, the tea water should be around 72 to 76 degrees. If it is higher it could cause the bitterness as well.
How do you make this tea?
Quite simple actually. Traditonally, you are supposed to use a bowl and a bamboo whisk. You can still prepare even if you don't own a bamboo whisk. I don't have one, so I started out with a spoon.
Start out with 1/2 to 3/4 teaspoon of the Midori Spring matcha tea. Try your best to avoid clumps. Slowly pour your water in. Around 2 oz. You are supposed to have a froth, but I wasn't achieving that with my spoon, so I tried it with a small whisk I had on hand. I'm sure if you had a milk frother it would work just as well. After a few minutes I still had a little clumps left, so I stirred some more, and did end up with a little froth. Like I said before, it was a bit bitter, so I added honey. It honestly wasn't too bad after that.
Even though it does have caffeine in it I didn't have any jitters whatsoever. That is due to the fact that one serving only has 35 mg compared to a cup of coffee that has anywhere from 95 to 200 mg.
This tea does have a calming, soothing effect. I did feel relaxed.
Overall I think this is a nice tea. I almost forgot to mention that it is dairy, soy, and gluten free. It contains zero GMOs as well.
I will continue using this tea since learning of all the health benefits.
